I read an article somewhere stating WP powered 20+ percent of new sites on the web.

I'm not surprised. Your thoughts on this?

Wordpress is an amazingly versatile software, so I'm not surprised.

I am not surprised. When I get new people to site building asking me where to begin, I always recommend wordpress because its so easy to build a website with. Plus they have the blog and tons of addons to help make it better. When you have a wordpress website, besides content, I think your main concern will be the look and feel, making it more unique than other WPs.
